Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis Treatment Plant
In June 2001, TSG completed the design and
construction of a 2.5 million gallon per day brackish water reverse
osmosis treatment plant for Florida Water Services Corporation. The
facility's design allows the phasing in of increased water production
in response to the growing needs of the Burnt Store community in southwest Florida.
The plant design incorporated the following features:
- Plant incorporates new scale inhibitor formulation to eliminate feedwater pH adjustment with sulfuric acid.
- Permeate flush at shutdown to eliminate overloading of injection well.
- Addition of 500,000 gallons of storage and new high service pumping system.
- Feedwater blending to reduce finished water cost.
- Degasification for removal of hydrogen sulfide.
- PC based control system.
The entire design, permitting and construction process was
completed in less than seven months under a design-build contract. This project
was awarded the 2001 - 2002 ASCE Award for Outstanding Engineering Design.
