GAINESVILLE, Fla. — 12 Aug 2026 — TSG Water Resources, Inc., a water and wastewater engineering, procurement, construction and operations firm, today announced it has been contracted to design and supply a 1.8 million gallon per day (6,813 m³/day) high recovery ultra-high-pressure seawater reverse osmosis (UHP SWRO) facility in Mexico. This will be one of the largest UHP SWRO system known to be in commercial operation anywhere in the world.
“This location in Mexico is water-constrained, and every additional gallon we recover from the same intake is a gallon that doesn’t require new marine infrastructure,” said Jason Erickson, President and CEO of TSG Water Resources. “That’s what ultra-high pressure buys you. It’s a more complex plant to design and operate, but the additional recovery is compelling enough that I expect this becomes a standard approach in feedwater constrained markets.”
Ultra-high-pressure reverse osmosis is a distinct technology class defined by the use of specialized high-pressure membranes and pressure vessels, capable of operating above 1,200 psi (83 bar) — roughly 50% above the ceiling of conventional seawater RO membranes. UHP membranes have been commercially available for several years, but have been deployed almost exclusively in industrial brine concentration, zero-liquid-discharge and mineral recovery applications at capacities measured in hundreds of cubic meters per day.
The use of UHP membranes will allow the facility to achieve 67 % recovery — substantially above the 40 to 45 % typical of conventional seawater plants. This will result in more potable water from the same intake volume, a proportionally smaller brine discharge, and reduced civil and intake infrastructure relative to a conventional plant of equivalent output.
The project builds on TSG’s existing presence in Mexico, where the company previously delivered a 1.4 MGD high-recovery SWRO facility using Biturbo technology rather than UHP, which was the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere at the time of completion.
Design and procurement are underway, with commissioning targeted to begin September 2027.
